STARLANDIA
MULTI-PLATFORM BRANDING

Starlandia is one of my favorite places in Savannah.

Maybe it’s because I’m mildly addicted to art supplies or maybe it’s their friendly Southern charm. But y’all…it’s a special place. So, when I had the opportunity to create a multi-platform branding ID, I chose Starlandia.

My goal was to make the design as upbeat and vibrant as the people that encompass their mission:

Make art. Stay thrifty. Save the world.

Below is a detailing of the process of how this project came together as well as additional assets created to be used across various mediums.

PROGRAMS:
Cinema 4d
Redshift
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe After Effects
Adobe Illustrator

ADDITIONAL FORMATS

The goal of this multi-platform branding assignment was to re-edit the initial horizontal (1920 x 1080) design into multiple formats for social platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Below are additional design elements, style frames and videos in vertical (1080 x 1920) and square (1080 x 1080) formats.

INITIAL CUT + STYLE FRAMES

This is the initial cut and style frames from the project.

After receiving feedback, I added more organic touches to the line work in lieu of the harsh black lines. As well as enhancing the ending and resolving the piece with another logo reveal.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT + PROCESS

Starlandia sells new and reclaimed creative materials in Savannah’s Starland District - a location known for revitalization and home to several thrift stores, creative studios, a retro-style bakery and small-batch craft brewery. Both the location and business model have proven to be a successful match for Savannah - which is home to a world-renown art school where thousands of new, incoming students are in need of purchasing supplies every year.

Starlandia rescues and resales art supplies that would be otherwise discarded.

For this project, I wanted to feature traditional art supplies in an entertaining way while also including a yellow bag, which is a signature part of the company’s marketing and used during seasonal sales. Keeping the target audience in mind (makers and artists), I wanted the piece to include a few hand-made qualities including typography.

INITIAL TEST SHOTS

Initially, I planned to capture the 3d elements as actual footage of art supplies purchased from Starlandia and then animate/rotoscope 2d elements on top of the footage. Below is the original mood board/reference images and some of the footage I initially shot including a few stop motion tests of the supplies. As much as I didn’t want to abandon the tactile approach, after several attempts with supplies, I made the decision to move forward with the project through using and creating assets in Cinema 4d.
